You're correct in that Dell does not show support for the Windows 7 OS. You took the hard drive out of the Compaq Presario and put it in your dell latitude d which your friend gave you, Right? Dell, for your model doesn't supply win7 drivers, and as its a laptop the individual hardware makers drivers, eg graphics wont work either.
